SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Loving Well with Beth Moore

This is a four part DVD series of heart-to-heart messages where Beth describes different types of people – some easy to love and some not so easy to love. These will be held on Saturday mornings in the Dining Room from 9 to noon.  The next video is January 24 and March 28.  Even if you can’t make all of them, attend those you can.  It will be such a treat!!! Please email rhondafbcada@yahoo.com or call the church office. Childcare is available, but you must pre-enroll.

Women's Conference

Our next Women’s Conference will be September 26, 2009 with Debbie Stuart, Director of Women’s Ministry at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas.  We have had five wonderful Women’s conferences with great speakers and are looking forward to next year’s conference. Please put this date on your calendar.  You don’t want to miss it!

Deeper Still Conference

This conference is held on December 4-5, 2009 in Oklahoma City with Priscilla Shirer, Beth Moore and Kay Arthur at the Cox Convention Center.  We will need to purchase tickets before too long.  We are working on getting a package together for tickets, lodging and transportation.  For more information contact Sharyl Braddock at 320-3020 or kensharylbraddock@juno.com.

DISCIPLESHIP

Destined

Destined is a one-to-one discipleship experience in which you will develop a lasting relationship and learn to live out your faith. There are four steps in the destined process: destined for security, destined for intimacy, destined for ministry, and destined for eternity. For further information on this life-changing process, please contact Laurie Mettry at 332-0126 or e-mail at lmettry@cableone.net.

Mom 2 Mom Mentoring

We are looking at a new study where young mothers are mentored by other mothers who have already gained experience in this season of life.  We would love to know how much interest there is for this ministry.  Please contact Angela Kilby for more information at 235-0486.

EVANGELISM

Common Threads

Common Threads is a new ministry for the Sisters of FBC.  We plan to have an event twice a year where church members can donate good, used clothing.  “Common Threads” will be advertised, and the community will be invited to this one day event where they can receive free clothing. For more information contact Dex Carpenter. To schedule a drop off time, contact Adrienne Jacobs at 235-3499.

“It’s Cool To Be Kind”

“It’s Cool To Be Kind” is a ministry of FBC where we live out Matthew 5:16.  By performing random acts of kindness to people we encounter, we share the love of Christ.  It could be anything from mowing the neighbor’s lawn, paying for someone’s food in the drive-thru behind you, or leaving a larger tip than normal.  We are encouraged to give a Cool To Be Kind card to whomever you have helped, not for personal glory, but to let that person know that God cares about them and so do we.

COMMON JOYS

Bringing together women with common interests, this ministry is for women of all ages.  Those listed below are already in place.  Do you have a talent or interest you would enjoy teach other ladies or interest in learning?  Please let us know. More coming soon!!!

Christian Readers

We have been meeting for five years and the next book will be our forty-first.  Our book discussions are friendly, thoughtful, sometimes intense and always include snacks!  We generally alternate between fiction and non-fiction; some recent titles include The Shack, Velvet Elvis, In the Presence of My Enemies, The Red Tent.  We meet every 4-6 weeks on Sunday afternoons.  The next book is A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. This novel, which inspired the film Simon Birch (don't see it before you've read the book--it'll spoil the book; if you see it after you've read the book, you'll weep in frustration at home film folk can just ruin wonderful stories) is a story of friendship, redemption, grace and destiny. If may be a bit sentimental for some of us, and it may be a bit too critical of our foreign policy for others of us, but I think there will be plenty to talk about in the story of a boy who believes he is God's instrument. The Los Angeles Times reviewer described the novel as "roomy, intelligent, exhilarating and darkly comic...Dickensian in scope..quite stunning." We will meet on November 2 at 2:30 but have not chosen a place.  For further information, please contact Trisha Yarbrough 332-2897 or yarbrgh2@swbell.net.

Pie Crust Making

Once a year we gather in the ADA room for fun and fellowship and make 20 pie crusts to have on hand for the holidays.  This is led by Jan Long and Janet Gibson and is scheduled for November 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Dining Room. Pizza will be provided.

You will need to bring:

5 pounds all purpose flour, 3 pounds crisco, salt, a very large bowl, 1 box wax paper and aluminum foil, 1 box gallon freezer bags, 3 cup liquid measuring cup, 1 tablespoon, a wood spoon or pastry blender, rolling pin, a pie plate and 2 cans of fruit pie filling.

Scrapbooking – First Friday Night Crop Night

This group meets the first Friday of the month in the Senior Adult Conference Center from 6:00 pm to midnight. The next one will be December 5. Bring your pictures, supplies, etc.  This is a great time of fun and fellowship.  If you have questions, contact Kristi Lofton at 399-5977 or klofton@cableone.net.

Honoring Marriages

Once a year we recognize couples who are having a milestone wedding. Couples, who have been married for 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, etc., are recognized in the Sunday evening church service on February 8th with a reception following.

Please contact Angela Kilby at 235-0486 with needs or suggestions.
